I pulled the wraps off one of my bikes and found this thing. I haven’t seen it before but I’m guessing its for ergonomic purposes. The wrap goes over the cable a lot smoother and feels a lot less lumpy this way. This is pretty useless with today’s nice and soft cork wraps but I can see it being useful with the old school plastic wraps.
